What I Grew Up Believing
Raised Catholic by happily married parents in Western Europe, I absorbed unspoken beliefs about love:
Committed relationships mean adventure ends
Attraction to others threatens your relationship
When your partner desires someone else, jealousy is the only appropriate response
These beliefs shaped my idea of love, and they led to my first heartbreak.
The Cost of Those Beliefs
I stayed with my first boyfriend for five years. Throughout that entire relationship, I was also secretly attracted to our best friend.I felt so wrong. So ashamed. I didn't tell anybody.Eventually, I broke up with my boyfriend. I was convinced there was something fundamentally wrong with me, or with our love.I spent the next several years in serial monogamy, carrying those old beliefs, suppressing attraction I judged as immoral.
Learning from Others' Courage
Years later, I met high school sweethearts. Ten years together. Deeply in love, but curious about others. They stood at a crossroads: break up, or open up. Unlike me, they had the courage to discuss their desires openly—and they invited me to join their first threesome.The connection they shared, the care they took with each other, witnessing them fall in love more deeply—mesmerizing! I discovered I'm symbiosexual: attracted to the connection between two people, not just the individuals.Weeks later, they got engaged. Today, they're married with two children. I trained extensively: 6 ISTA trainings, tantra, dark play, coaching certification, deep immersion in the Bay Area's conscious play community. All of it was preparing me.In 2023, it hit me: "I'm meant to help couples have threesomes."But having threesomes and teaching them are different animals. After a year of standard psychotherapy I had begun to appreciate how defended and disembodied I've been throughout my life.
